Top Family Flashcards

All societies are organized by families - though the specifics can vary quite a lot! In American and other Western cultures, it’s common for families to be fairly small: two parents live together with their offspring and perhaps a grandparent. But in other cultures, the structure is completely different, with many grandparents and even aunts and uncles potentially living under the same roof. In other cultures, children may be raised by “alloparents,” or relatives of their biological parents.

Within a given culture, all families are different and follow their own quirky patterns. This is part of the variety that makes each of us unique as an individual. However, these differences may also have consequences – both positive and negative – for the children raised in those families. The flashcards in this set will help you understand these differences so that you can make plans for your own family – or so that you can understand the basic psychological principles that underlie families and family planning.
