State capitals are the centers of state governments. The state capitals are the specific cities, within each of the United States, where the governor, state legislature, and state courts meet. However, they are not necessarily the center of all the commerce in a state. Out of the fifty United States, thirty-three of the state capitals are located in cities that are not the most populous for that state.
