What happens in INTERPHASE, part 1?
1. The DNA get copied.
2. It makes PROTEINS 3. It grows a little bit. |
What happens in INTERPHASE, part 2?
The DNA condenses into 46 chromosomes.
What happens in PROPHASE?
Now there are 92 chromosomes.
They are all connected together(paired). The nuclear membrane breaks and goes away. |
What happens in METAPHASE?
Spindle fibers appear. They go from the horizontal poles and attach to the paired chromosomes.
The chromosomes line up in the middle. |
What happens in ANAPHASE?
The paired chromosomes get PULLED APART toward the East - West POLES
What is MITOSIS
The process where a cell divides into two identical cells.
What is a CHROMOSOME?
Tightly coiled (packaged) DNA in the nucleus.
How many chromosomes are in a human cell?
46 -- 23 from your Dad and 23 from your Mom.
What is a GENE?
A section of DNA that codes for a specific protein.
What is a GENOTYPE?
What gene you have -- example AA, Aa, aa
What's a PHENOTYPE?
A physical characteristic that results from your gene type. Like you have the Phenotype Brown Eyes because you have the Genotype AA.
What is an ALLELE?
A different form of the same gene (AA, Aa, aa )
What happens in TELOPHASE?
The nucleus forms again (reforms).
The cell membrane pinches in so it can split into 2 identical cells. |
What happens in CYTOKINESIS?
There are now TWO cells where there used to be ONE. MITOSIS is done. Each new cell is called a DAUGHTER cell.
What is a MUTATION?
When there is a MISTAKE or an ERROR when the DNA is copied.
