Warm and moisten the air (by the nasal mucosa).
What's found in the upper nasal cavities?
Olfactory receptors (detect vaporized chemicals that have been inhaled).
What are the paranasal sinuses?
Air cavities in the facial bones.
What are the functions of the paranasal sinuses?
To lighten the skull and provide resonance (vibrating air) for the voice.
What is the pharynx?
Muscular tube for both food and air.
Where is the pharynx located?
Posterior to the nasal and oral cavities.

How is the pharynx categorized?
Nasopharynx (behind the nasal cavities).
Oropharynx (behind the mouth).
Laryngopharynx (behind the larynx).
What moves through the larynx?
Just air.
