People are mammals just like many other animals. There are four characteristics that separate mammals from other types of animals like birds or reptiles. Can you name them? Most of us know that mammary glands and hair make us mammals, but did you know that we also have three bones in the middle ear and a part of the brain called the neocortex?

All species of mammals are able to produce milk to feed their babies. Did you know that there are over 5000 different species of mammal? Most mammals give birth to live younglings but can you name the type that lays eggs? If you answered monotremes, then you’re right!
