Charity
Giving to the needy. Charity organisations do not normally work for profit, but for the benefit of others.
Compassion
Loving kindness, helping others with no desire for reward.
Debt
Money that is owed or due.
Emergency aid
Immediate assistance to help cope with a situation that threatens their existence. The main aim is to stop people from dying.
Exploitation
Misuse of power/ money to get others to do things for little or unfair reward.
Global interdependence
The idea that countries depend on each other around the world.
Justice
Fairness, what is right, correcting what is wrong.
LEDC
Less economically developed country. A lot of the population do not have the basic needs.
Long term aid
Assistance given to a poor country possibly over a long period of time that has a lasting effect, e.g. education, training, health care programmes.
Natural disaster
A natural process, e.g. floods, tsunamis and earthquakes. They can cause destruction of the environment, loss of life and economic loss.
Poverty
The condition of being without money, food, shelter and other basic needs of life.
Stewardship
Ideas that humans have a duty to look after the world and everyone in it.
Sustainable development
Development which will keep going, and not be limited by time, money or environmental issues.
Unfair trade
Using various deceptive, fraudulent or unethical methods to obtain business, e.g. false advertising.
World trade
The trade between every country of the world.
