Topic: Why men should wear pink. Specific purpose: I want to persuade the audience why men should wear pink more often. Thesis Statement: Men wearing pink makes them feel comfortable, makes them seem more approachable and it can even save life's. I know that sounds crazy but stay with me. Introduction (Attention Getter) I. We have always associated girls with pink, and boys with blue. Has anyone ever wondered why this started? Well I'm here to tell you. II. In the 19th century babies, and toddlers were actually dressed in white dresses no matter what their gender was. At one point pink and blue weren't considered gender-specific colors. They were seen as colors for children in general. III. In the 1800's pink and blue began to be associated with gender but there was no agreement paper ever stating as to which color symbolized which gender. Some say that it was different depending on which country you were in. In France it was a trend for girls to wear pink. IV. The next century came around and increasing infant development encourage parents to distinguish their children's gender. Many manufactures saw this as a great opportunity to make money. If a couple has a girl, and then a boy they cannot hand down their siblings clothes so they would have to buy double!
(Credibility Statement) I. I have done lots of research on how pink has been associated with girls and how it has have changed over the years, how men wearing pink can create great things. I'm defiantly not An expert but I know I can provide everyone with the right information to help them somewhat understand why I picked this topic, and why you should support men wearing pink! II. Bear with me. (Preview) I. I will explain how men can wear pink II. How wearing pink can make a man look and feel III. Then I will explain how men wearing pink can change many peoples lives.
Transition: I will now explain how men can wear pink. Body I. "If you're going to brave the pink trend, you need to know that there's a thin line between right and wrong. We aren't saying go all-pink-everything, but instead play it safe with a single item, be it a simple T-shirt, a pair of trainers or a pair of socks. " said GQ magazine They also suggest that wearing darker color such as navy balances the pinks bright hue. II. You can pick a pink shade at random since pink suits most skin tones but different shades can change your look. " Hot pink suits darker skin-tones while light pinks suit people with lighter complexions. Therefore it’s important to choose your shade wisely." Said The Ideal Man magazine.
Transition: Now that I have explained how you can wear it I will now explain how wearing pink can make a man look and feel. Body: I. Men for years have refused to wear pink saying that it was "weird" and "not manly" since it has been identified as a girls color. It sounds silly but it is very true. I have looked very hard to figure out how it makes men feel. Unfortunately I couldn't find a males opinion but I think a women's opinion would be more influential to men. No offense gentlemen. Jocelyn Chia a Lawyer in NY says "I have been saying that “real men wear pink,” because wearing the color feels like it is a sign that they are comfortable and confident enough with their masculinity and sexuality that they are open to wear a traditionally feminine color. So I often find it dead sexy when a man wears pink especially if he can carry it off." If I was a man I would go home and change quickly and hurry up and find Jocelyn.
Transition: I have explained how pink can make a man feel and look and now I will explain how it can change lives. Body I. Yes, I know it sounds crazy but it's very true. The American Cancer Society has been making strikes against cancer worldwide since 1913, and in 2016 decided to devote a month just to breast cancer fighters, survivors, and family's. They call it the Real Men Wear Pink campaign. II. More than 2,000 individuals across the United States have accepted the challenge. III. The American Cancer Association says "Real Men Wear Pink is a distinguished group of community leaders raising awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events in 2016. Participants will wear pink every day in October and compete to raise money through online fundraising and networking."
IV. Men and women can participate, I just thought all of the information before hand was interesting and would help men be more willing to want to wear pink. If only majority of this class wasn't women. Oh well you all can still participate in this great cause. V. Back to the facts! The American Cancer Association also says that 34,000 daughter, wives, mothers, sisters, and friends will be diagnosed with breast cancer. VI. The association has made a 36% decrease since 1989. That means 249,000 fewer breast cancer deaths. VII. An Executive, Vice President, and 14 other men in the ACS making a stride against breast cancer at a Lehigh Valley campaign raised a total of $93,000.
Conclusion: Many women have lost their life's to breast cancer, and it will not end until we all come together and fight for the cause. I hope I have encouraged every man and women in this room to reach out, donate, volunteer at the American Cancer association because anything can make a difference, so in October don't forget to wear pink!
Thank you!
