Narrator and protagonist of the story. Tom-boy. Lives with her dad and brother and her black cook Culpurnia.

Atticus Finch
|
A widowed father of Jem and Scout. One of Maycombs lawyers. He has great morals and defends a black man in a court hearing which was very risky to do back in the day. Has a backbone with what he believes in.

Jeremy Atticus “Jem” Finch
|
Scouts brother. Four years older than Scout. All american boy who is willing to live up to any dare. Grows more mature and realizes the immoral injustice of the inequality of blacks.

Arthur “Boo” Radley
|
Never steps outside of his house. The towns main conversation piece. Leaves little presents for Scout and Jem in the knot of a tree. Saves the children when they are being attacked by Bob Ewell. An example of one of the stories mockingbirds.

Bob Ewell
|
Town drunk. One of the members of the towns most unemployed family. Wrongly made the statement that his daughter was raped by black negro Tom Robinson. Represents the dark part of the south.

Charles Baker “Dill” Harris
|
Jem and Scouts summer friend.

Miss Maudie Atkinson
|
Finch's neighbor. Tells it the way it is. Agrees with Atticus's passion for injustice.

Calpurnia
|
Finch's black cook. Has acted like a motherly figure in the two kids lives.

Aunt Alexandra
|
Atticus's sister. Has many old fashioned morals of the south which happen to have her and Scout clash.

Mayella Ewell
|
Bob Ewells abused and lonely daughter. Gets in a situation with Tom Robinson which she put on herself but can't admit it to her father.

Tom Robinson
|
One of the books mockingbirds. Is accusing of raping Mayella Ewell and is defended by Atticus.

Tom Robinsons employer. Looks beyond race injustice and excepts races.

Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose
|
Old crabby lady who lives by the Finch's. Tells it how it is and often is mean to people. Atticus respects her for getting over her morphine addiction and leaving this world holding onto no one or anything.

Nathan Radley
|
Boo Radleys older brother. Cuts off a part of Boos and the two kids relationship by filling in the hole in the tree which is where Boo would leave presents for the kids.

Heck Tate
|
Witness at Tom's trail. Tries to help protect those who are innocent.
