What are the three estates? What kind of privileges, exemptions etc. does each get?
The three estates are -Clergy: .5% of pop, owned 10% of land and collected tax on it, collected tithe, did not pay tax but gave the king a gift every 5 years. -Nobility: 1.5% of pop, 1/2 are nobles of the sword (inherited tittle from medieval times), some purchased their tittles, only they could be army officers, or hold judicial and administrative jobs, excused from civil crime, no hunting restrictions, did not pay certain taxes, un-united in support of king-Bourgeoisie: Urban workers, rural peasantry, 98% of pop, tax collectors (farmers general), felt wrath of famine and economic crisis first, urban peasants are more radical then rural ones.
What are some causes of the french revolution?

What is the Estates General?
An assembly representing the French people, to indicate their requests for reform and change in france.
Why was the french government in debt before the revolution?
They had spent a lot of money on costly wars, and contunued to spend it on things like Versailles. The tax system is also corrupt, and some tax collectors pocket some money. The royalty are blamed for spending money on luxuries.
What is the "Divine right" ?
The belief that a monarch gets his/ her power straight from god.
What were "Cahiers" ?
Lists of grievances formed by the people to indicate their requests for reform and change in france.
What was the tennis-court oath?
People from the third estate sign an oath that they will not disband until a constitution is created for France. Beginning of french refusal to abide by the authority of the king. Beginning of the revolution.
What was the Storming of the Bastille? What date was this done on?
The Bastille was a symbol of the kings power, it was an old prison, the french people stormed, pillaged and ruined this building. Beginning of violence in the revolution.
What was the National Assembly?
The third estate name themselves the National Assembly meaning they represented all people.
What were Jacobins?
Radicalists, they want a republic.
What are Girondins?
People who wanted a constitutional monarchy.
What are Bourgeoisie?
The third estate, they seek power.
Republic
Power is held by the people and their elected representatives rather then a monarch.
What was the Legislative Assembly?
Successor of the National Assembly, the people of the assembly create the french laws.

Held executive power over France during the first years of the French First Republic.
