Neg/pos bias 2ward category of ppl. determined by 1s experience w/ a grp & then generalizations R made 2 include ALL members of tht particular group
Prejudice
Level of tolerance one has for a group/category of ppl. often used as measurement of prejudice.
Social Distance
Action tht disqualiies member of a particular group frm social opportunities including college admission, employment, housing, bank loans, etc.
Discrimination
Prejudice/discrimination. HATE CRIMES involved both inflammatory language & physical aggression whose victims R targeted strictly on a racial basis.
Racism
Exaggerated/inaccurate mental image ppl often develop in regards 2 grps of ppl who R different frm themselves.
Stereotype
The creation of spatial barriers designed to separate different categories of ppl frm interacting w/ each other.
Segregation
Segregation laws passed aftr D Civil War 2 ensure segregation @ da State level allown 4 D cont. exploitation of D African/Native population in D area
Jim Crow Laws
Elimination of spatial barriers between different grps who don't interact w/ 1 another. Ex: Case of Brown vs Board of Education
Desegregation
Is the blending of different groups by choice and preference.
Integration
Segregation that is required by law and punished with a criminal penalty
