What are some arterial based diseases?
Ischemic hypoxias: HTN, AS, periarteritis, OIS
What are some venous based diseases?
Stagnant hypoxias: DM, Venous occlusions,
Blood disorders: anemia, myelomas, lymphomas
Hyalin arterial sclerosis
Involutional - collagen and hyalin deposited in intima; result of aging but accelerated in DM and HTN
Proliferative arterial sclerosis
Reactive, onion skin - damaged endo cells replaced by proliferating cells in intima; seen in acute HT
Grading scale for atherosclerosis:
0: Normal; 1: broadened light reflex with minimal A/V changes; 2: Obvious light reflex with A/V knicks; 3: copperwire; 4: silverwire

Grading HT
0: normal; 1: barely noticeable diffuse arterial narrowing; 2: art narrowing w/focal constrictions; 3: hemes/CWS; 4: disc edema
Dx |
Focal constrictions (in addition to diffuse) indicate acute HT
