What are the methods of qualitative research?
Participant observation, intensive interviewing, focus groups
What is participant observation, and when do you use it?
A method of qualitative research involving in the field observations and asking questions, used to investigate a group in their natural habitat.
What are the types of participant observation, and what are the differences between them?
"Complete participation" involves the researcher actively influencing the activities of the group, "participant as observer" involves the researcher's presence being known to the group, but not directly involved in activity
What is narrative analysis?
A method of analyzing qualitative data focusing on maintaining the integrity of the "story" or a sequence of events, and to categorize them, without drawing conclusions as to the causes or connections to a theory
What is comparative analysis?
A method of analyzing qualitative data focusing on comparing observations to each other and drawing conclusions, and comparing conclusions to other explanations
