What is the Anatomical Position?

The body erect, with arms by the sides and with the palms turned out

What does Projection mean?
|
The path of the central ray (CR) as it exits the x-ray tube and goes through the patient to the image receptor (IR)

What is an AP Projection (anteroposterior)?
|
The central ray enters the anterior aspect and exits the posterior aspect

What is a PA Projection (posterioanterior)?
|
The central ray enters the posterior aspect and exits the anterior aspects

What is an Axial Projection?
|
The central ray enters the anterior aspect at an angle and exits the posterior aspect

What is a Tangential Projection?

The central ray skims the surface of the skull?

What is a Lateral Projection?
|
The patient is placed in the right lateral position.
The right side of chest is touching the IR The CR enters the left or opposite side of the body |
What is a Lateromedial Projection?
|
The CR enters the lateral aspect of the forearm and exits the medial aspect

What is a Oblique Projection?
|
Entire body or body part is rotated so that the coronal plane (divides body into anterior and posterior parts) is not parallel to the table

|
Refers to the body position, such as supine, prone, recumbent, erect, or trendelenburg.
