What is a solute?
A substance that dissolves into a solvent.
What is a solvent
Solvent:
The substance in which the solute dissolves into.
Explain the dissolving process |
When a solute enters a solvent, if the attractive force between the solute particles and the solvent particles is at least as strong as that between the solute particles, dissolving occurs. Also, dissolving depends on the solubility of a solute in a solvent. This differs depending on the temperature and amount of solvent.
What is concentration?
CONCENTRATION: the amount of solute dissolved into a quantity of solvent/solution
Explain what a saturated solution is
Saturated: A solution in which all spaces between solvent particles are filled
Explain what a unsaturated solution is
Unsaturated: A solution in which not all spaces between solvent particles are filled
What is solubility?
SOLUBILITY: The amount of solute required to fill the spaces between the water particles at a certain temperature
When a solution is dilute, what does that mean?
Dilute: low concentration of solute
When a solution is concentrated, what does that mean?
Concentrated: high concentrate of solute
