What is temperament?

The hereditary aspects of personality, including sensitivity, activity levels, prevailing mood, irritability, and adaptability. This is the raw material to which a personality is formed.

What are the functions of the id?
|
The id acts upon instinct unconsciously. It operates off of please principles (seeks to freely express pleasure seeking urges). Their libido (pleasure that energizes the personality) controls their personality.

What are the functions of the ego?
|
The ego directs the energy of the id to external reality. The ego is guided by the reality principle. The reality principle delays the id's desires until they are appropriate.

What are the functions of the superego?
|
The superego acts as a judge or censor for thoughts and actions.

According to Adler, why do people strive for superiority?
|
People strive for superiority to overcome imperfections, drive for competence, completion and mastery of short comings.

In conditions of worth we see that some acts may win someones love or approval and other acts may not. In unconditional positive regard, the love and approval is unshakable and given with out qualification.
