Sensorimotor
Birth-Two Years. Develop sensory & motor abilities. (paiget)
Object Permanence

Preoperational Period

Concrete Operational Period

Assimilation
The process through which we fit- or assimiliate- new experiences into existing schemata. (example: the child lives in a house full of cats, so their outtake on cats: "small furry things are cats"
Accomodation
The process through which we change or modify existing schemata to accommodate new experiences. (example: the child learns that the new 'kitty' hops rather than walks and seems reluctant to purr, she will need to modify and reviste the existing concept of small furry things; the child is forced to change the existing schemata to accomodate new information)

Germinal Period
0-2wks after conception to implantation of fertilized egg in ueterus wall. Sometimes implantation happesn, sometimes it doesnt 'stick'
Embryonic Period
2-8 weeks. From implantation - the end of eigth week. Starts developing unrecognizable cells for: arms, legs, fingers, toes and a distinctly beating heart.
Fetal Period
9 wks - Birth. Early in this period, bones and muscles of a 'fetus' start to develop. later on, skeletal structure appropriate for movement.
