Front Back
What is the differance between Skelatal Muscle and Cardiac Muscle?

3 Points each
Skeletal: Control body movement, controled by somatic motor neuron NOT HORMONES.

Cardiac: Only the heart. Striations (like cardiac).
Structure and Function of Smooth Muscles?
Primary muscle for internal organs, blood vessels. No Striations, influences movement through the body.
What are the two attachment points for skeletal muscles?
Origin - Least movable

Insertion - Most movable
What are the two/3 types of muscles?
Flexor - Bring closer together (muscles contract)

Extensor - Bring further apart (muscles contract)

Antagonistic - pars of muscles to move in both directions (working against each other)
What is the outer connective tissue of the skeletal muscle called?
Epimysium
What causes striations in Skeletal and Cardiac muscle?
The organization of Actin and Myosin.
Bundles of muscle tissue are called...? and they are covered by......?
Fascicles, which are covered by the Perimysium (connective tissue sheath)
Muscle fibers are found within each...?
Fascicle
What is the innermost connective tissue sheath called?
Endomysium (Endo - inside)
Within each muscle fiber are the functional units of the skeletal muscle! Name these...
Myofibrils. Muscle fibers contain so many of these, there is little room for anything else.
Cytosol contains many.....?
Glycogen granules and mitochondria (ATP synthesis)
Structure of a muscle fibre, name shape, how many nuclei, what are some key components? What is most of the space of a muscle fibre comprised of?
Long, cylindrical cell. Made up of hundreds of nuclei on the surface. Contain a cell membrane called Sarcolemma (flesh, Shell). Most space is made up of myofibrils, which contain sarcoplasmic reticulum. and part of the myofibrils are Contractile and Elastic Protein bundles.
What is the blue colored organelle called? What are the series of branched tubes called?
Sarcoplasmic Reticulum. T-Tubles (Transverse Tubules), Lumen continuous with ECF.
