What is the definition of Density?
Density = Mass/Volumep=m/V
Question 2
What is the pressure at the base?What is the Volume of the Column?Hence what is P?
Answer 2
Pressure at base= V p g/AV= A hP=h p g
What is Archimedes' Principle?
The upthrust is equal to the weight of the displaced fluid.
What is Upthrust equal to?
U = p V gUpthrust = density x volume x g
What makes an object float?And why do boats have Plimsoll lines?
An object will float in a fluid if the upthrust is equal to its weight.Plimsoll lines indicate how far the boat will sink or float, due to salt concentration.
Describe laminar flow?
Laminar flow:- Layers of fluid continue in lines at a constant velocity- the lines do not mix- the layers slide over each other- the streamlines stay attached
Describe turbulent flow?
Turbulent flow:- The flow lines are unstable- Layers mix- The layers form swirls/ Eddies- The velocity is not constant- Flow lines become detached
What is viscosity?
Viscosity of a liquid refers to its stickiness and thus its resistance to flow.
What is Stokes' Law?
F = 6 x Pi x Eta x Radius x Velocity
What is the coefficient of Viscosity?
Coefficient of viscosity = 2(Ps - Pf)gr^2/9V
What does the free-fall of a sphere falling in fluid look like?
Answer 11
Look at picture
What may cause variations in viscosity?
TemperatureThixotropy
