55% plasma (a clear pale yellow fluid)45% RBC's, WBC's, nutrients, lipids, glucose, sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, antibodies, as well as vitamins and hormones.
Function of circulatory system
To deliver oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and enzymes to the cells. Exchange is done at the capillary level).
Also to transport cellular waste such as carbon dioxide tfrom lung and urea from kidneys to the organs where they can be expelled from body. Circulation system is a transport system where the blood is the vehicle, and the blood vessels, tubes and heart work as the pump. |
Function of heart
Acts as two pumps in series (right and left sides), connected by two circulations, with each pump equipped with two valves, the function of which is to maintain a one-way flow of blood.
Pulmonary circulation
This circulation carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs and returns oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
Where oxygenation takes place

Systemic circulation
Carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle throughout the body.

Tricuspid valve
Atrioventricular valve, situated between the right atrium and right ventricle.
Pulmonic valve
Semi lunar valve situated between right ventricle and pulmonary artery.
Mitral valve
A.k.a. bicuspid valve. situated between left atrium and left ventricle.
Aortic value
Semi lunar valve situation between the left ventricle and aorta
