What are according to feezell the foundations of keating inability to provide a sound account of sportsmanship? how can shortcomings be overcome?
He has the wrong definition of sport and takes his definition from the dictionary. his definition cannot be fully understood. The difference between sports and athletics is one seeks victory and the other seeks diversion.
What is Sportsmanship according to Feezell?
He believes sportsmanship has 2 types of virtue, intellectual and moral. intellectual is to know something and moral is to know nothing. Sportsmanship is the means or balance between extreme seriousness and playfulness.
Sportsmanship according to Keating?
Sportmanship is the attitude of generosity and magnetivity in sports since it seeks diversion. sports is fairness. we should not define sportsmanship as moral maximum and minimal.
Cheating according to Oliver Leaman
No definition of cheating except that it's the violation of principals of justice beyond the difference in skill and strategy.
Why does Leaman believe cheating is important part of some sporting contests?
Cheating is part of the structure of the game because and it is important to test the structure of the rules. the referee makes cheating a part of the game like hackers hack computers to test limits of software.
Fundamental Difference between Jane English and Ray bellioti's reasons for engaging in a critique of gender inequalities in sport, especially those related to scarce benefits of professional sport.
English believes sport should have equal opportunity with equal chances. she believes there should be a sport created for woman. she believes woman are made to be inferior and do not receive the same benefits as male.
Beliotti says that woman should not feel inferior and should gain self respect in anything they do in life. He does not agree with English's approach and believes external goods have nothing to do with self respect. He believes a woman should not compare them self to other woman and believes that they should not feel inferior if they play on the same level. |
Difference btwn Simon and Fraleighs view of the ethics of strategic fouling?
Fraleigh believes that intentional fouling should not happen if it takes the individuals measure and ability to play the game. He believes it is only ok when the foul permits time and space.
Simon believes intentional fouls should be done in a wise and judicious way. A foul at the end of the game is fine but an intentional foul in any other time of the game is not allowed. |
Why does Fraliegh believe that one cannot provide a plausible account of the ethics of strategic fouling without appealing to Torres' view of sport.
Torres view does not make a distinction between constitutive and restorative rules. Without a distinction we can not see what the problem is. foul shots at the end of the game and free kicks in soccer happen at the end of the game and it is important to distinguish skills.
3 things which must be achieved for our society to overcome gender equalities according to Jane English.
1. Equal opportunity with equal chances to basic benefits.2. equal oppurtunity to scarce benefits3. new sport created for woman
True or Fales. Robert simon agrees with the way Warren P. Fraleigh uses Cesar Torres' view of sport to support his account of the ethics of strategic fouls? explain with examples.
Fraleigh believes Torres's view is too general.

Allen Worth's view of college student athletes and exploitation
Worth says their is no exploitation and says the flaws are in the institutions itself and the school took advantage of unfair advantage. There is only exploitation if the students no not receive as much money as they give. If both sides receive then there is no exploitation. The problem is the students who go to big times schools are put in that situation by society. Schools take advantage of the unfairness of the system. An example is recruiting. Created by society. Players would rather go to ignatius.

What is title 9?
Title 9 is
affirmative action and attempt to resotre lost rights. Woman should have more
sports expanded for them.
Francis message and title 9 and affirmative action
Title 9 was a good attempt in a flawed system. a better way to reform college sports is to create a wide array of sports to attain to a woman's physical advantages. The sports should be more intramural with less emphasis. People need to learn how to enjoy on an intramural level. He says we should do away with varsity athletics and we should use the money for all other sports.
Simon and Boxing. should there be a legal prohibition for boxing?
No not legally, but we must make case for moral
reform. If we do not then we glorify violence. If we are moral beings we have
to do something. Boxing is a way to get out of poverty, or people get into
boxing and do not understand danger. Boxing to get out of poverty is reasonable
but they choose it even though they know there is harm. Kids getting into
boxing to get out of poverty is in wrong state of mind sicnce the risk of
boxing puts one at risk, kid needs to save him self.
Argument for paternalism
Not conclusive because one must save themselves first. people choose boxing without thinking, but we cannot deny the benefits and how it can get one out of poverty.
Moral
reform of boxing which means puts emphasis on points other than knockout. If
that’s the case then the skills become most important.
