Mitochondria
|
Energy
It is the powerhouse of the cell. They provide all the energy for a cell or living organism. (eg. moving, breathing, talking, thinking) Turns food into energy. Found it all cells. |
Lysome
|
Denfence and Repair
Attacks foreign material inside the cell and helps to repair damaged parts of a cell. |
Golgi Body
|
Transportation
Helps transport finished portiens to other organelles or to the outside of the cell. They help modify proteins. Folds give it increased surface area. Also known as a Golgi apparatus. |
Nucleus
|
Library
Large organelle usually found near the center of a cell. It takes up approximately 25% of the cell. Stores all of genetic material that controls the cell, organ, and organism. Is protected by a nuclear membrane. |
Cytoplasm
|
Liquid
The liquid inside the cell. It is water with several different kinds of chemicals dissolved in it. Eg. Oxygen, proteins, amino acids, metabolic waste, etc. The organelles float around the like fish in a aquarium. It allows chemical reactions in a cell to occur. |
Cell Wall
|
Support
A frame structure that surrounds a cell and helps the cell to keep it's shape. (It does not protect the cell!) Not found in animals cells, only in plant cells. Made of cellulose, the same chewy material found in celery. They are dark lines around each cell. |
Ribosome
|
Workers
They are workers that build the proteins. Ribosomes are found floating freely in the cytoplasm or on the rough endoplasmic reticulum. (They give it the rough appearance.) |
