I'll meet you in the VLE! Buzz is the best LMS! |
VLE is the Virtual Learning Environment. A subset of that is the Learning Management System (LMS). It can also be called a learning platform. |
E-Learning vs. Online Learning |
E-learning is a term that relates to all tech-based learning, whether is is via the internet, CDs, software, etc. Online Learning is specific to learning that happens via the internet with an instructor and set of students. This can also be called Distance Learning. |
Asynchr-a-what? What is the difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning? |
Let's all get in sync! Asynchronous learning happens when the access to the instruction is not at the exact time that the instructor is teaching. This could be a video, activities, discussion boards, chats, etc. Synchronous learning happens IRL (in real life), or at the exact time of instruction. This is also thought of as "live" instruction, whether online or otherwise. |
My boss set up a video conference, but I already have a webinar at that time. What is the difference? |
Video conferencing refers to the use of video technology (both hardware and software) to create a virtual meeting between two or more people in different physical locations. Participants can see and hear each other through this technology. A webinar is a seminar or workshop in which the facilitator and participants view the same screen at the same time. Usually the webinar has an audio component that the facilitator controls and functionality that allows participants to chat by entering text, answering polls, raising their hands and asking questions. |
Self Paced Learning? What is it? |
Self-paced learning is any learning that you can do without the aid of an instructor. This can be with books, online, etc. It is asynchronous and the pace is set by the learner. |
