Used to stop preterm labor, CNS depressant; relaxes smooth muscle, used in preeclamptic patients to prevent seizure. AE: depressed respirations, decreased DTR's, hypotension, extreme muscle weakness, flushing, decreased urine output, pulm edema, serum mag levels >9

Vitamin K; in newborns to increased production of prothrombin

Calcium gluconate

Used to stop preterm labor; B-adrenergic agonist; relaxes smooth muscle AE: SOB, coughing, tachypnea, pulm edema, tachycardia, palpitations, chest pain, hypotension, fluid retention and decreased urine production, tremors, dizziness, headache

Used to stop preterm labor; B-adrenergic agonist; relaxes smooth muscle AE: SOB, coughing, tachypnea, pulm edema, tachycardia, palpitations, chest pain, hypotension, fluid retention and decreased urine production, tremors, dizziness, headache similar to Ritodrine, but less severe

Used to stop preterm labor; Ca channel blocker, relaxes smooth muscle AE: transient tachycardia, palpitations, hypotension, dizziness, headache

Used to stop preterm labor; prostaglandin inhibitor relaxes smooth muscle AE: Maternal: NV Fetal: premature closure of ductus arteriosus Used only when other methods fail- need 32 wks gestation
