Insertion: Body of tongue, hyoid bone.
Action: Depresses and protracts tongue.
Hyoglossus
Origin: Body and greater horn of hyoid bone.
Insertion: Side of tongue.
Action: Depresses and retracts tongue.

Origin: Anterior surface of soft palate.
Insertion: Side of tongue.
Action: Elevates tongue, depresses soft palate.
