What is MS?
Idiopathic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system

Causes demyelination of the myelin sheath around that surrounds the nerve fibres

Aetiology is unknown but

What are the 3 types of MS?
  • relapsing remitting MS 80%
  • secondary progressive MS
  • primary progressive MS 10-15%
Tell me about relapsing remitting MS?
  • course goes up and down
  • have relapses/ attack
  • after recovery return very close to baseline
Tell me about secondary progressive MS?
  • course becomes more prgressive
  • becoming progressively more disabled for a period of six months
Tell me about primary progressive MS?
  • become more disabled for a period of at least 1 year
