Abandonment
Ending care of an ill or injured person without that persons consent or without ensuring that some one with equal of greater training will continue that care. Page 8

A disease in which the lings lose their ability to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen effectively. Page 102

Painful spasms of skeletal muscles after exercise of work in warm of moderate temperatures; usually involve the calf and abdominal muscles. Page 158
Heat exhaustion
The early stage and most common form of heat-related illness; often results from strenuous work of exercise in a hot environment. Pages 2, 158
Heat stroke
A life-threatening condition that develops when the body's cooling mechanisms are overwhelmed and body systems begin to fail. Pages 2, 158
Hepatitis B
A liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus; may be severe or even and can be in the body up to 6 months before symptoms appear. Pages 86, 93
Hepatitis C
A liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus; it is the most chronic blood-borne infection in the United States. Pages 86, 93
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
A virus that destroys the body's ability to fight infection. A result of HIV infection is referrers to as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) Pages 86-87, 93
