What is the difference of mass and gravity
Mass is the amount of matter composing the object, whereas gravity is the force acting on the object and the product of its mass and acceleration due to gravity (g=9.8m/s2)
Define moment of inertia
The measure of resistance to angular acceleration. It is affected both by the total mass and the distance that mass is from the COR: I=mr2(m=mass, r=distance from COR)
Distance x Force=?
Work
Work/time=?
Power
Kinematics is what? And involes what?
Studying of motion without consideration of the forces that act upon it. Involves position, displacement, velocity, and acceleration.
Kinetics is what? What are some terms with kinetics
The study of motion and the forces involved. Moment of inertia, work, power, and energy (potential and kinetic)
What is the difference b/w scalar and vecter quantities?
Scalar only has magnitude whereas vecter has 4 components: magnitude, orientation, point of application, and direction
Name the 4 forces that act within a force system
Collinear- act in straight line ("pull my finger") Parallel- forces act parallel to each other Concurrent- intersect at same point General- everywhere
Give the physics definiton of force couples.
- Forces are equal and parallel in magnitude - points of application on opposite ends of lever - produce equal torques of the same sense. As in the forces are in opposite directions but act on different sides of the axis of rotation of the lever
What is the biological definition of torque?
-2 or more forces that act on a rigid body - rotary motion is produced - translational motion is minimized
What is load?
Any force or combination of forces applied to outside of a structure.
Force/total area=?
Total Load.. Sun of all external forces
Types of stresses
Tension Compression Shear (known as friction)
Unit load is describe as..?
The load expressed per unit of cross-sectional area. (Most useful)
The physical deformation of matter resulting from a load is called what?
Strain
