The old saying that practice makes perfect seems to make sense when it comes to schoolwork. But, while kneeling down after dinner amongst books and worksheets might seem like a natural part of childhood life, there’s more research now than ever suggesting that it shouldn't be so.

Good afternoon teachers the topic I choose for this oral presentation is that homework should be banned and I believe that it should be banned.
Many in the education field today are looking for evidence to support the case for homework, but are coming up empty-handed. “Homework is all pain and no gain,” says author Alfie Kohn.
In his book The Homework Myth he points out that no studies have ever found a link between homework and academic achievement in school and there is little reason to believe that homework is necessary in high school. In fact it may even reduce interest in learning, Kohn said.
If you've ever had a late night argument with your parents about completing homework, you probably know first-hand that homework can be a stress on families. In an effort to reduce that stress, there are a growing number of schools which are banning homework.

The amount of homework is a really critical issue for kids and at the moment its often add on because parents want it. It’s not only kids who get tied down with homework parents are also heavily involved.
Dr Edwards said almost half of mums and dads, 41 per cent helps out 3 or four days a week with 15 per cent also chipping in on 5 or more days for their child and like I said before it bring lot of stress on families.
Homework for most kids occurs in the years when learning is most critical when it is extremely boring which takes their interest out of the learning process. Sure, argue that homework isn't very stressful or isn't very hard compared to the average adult responsibilities. This much is true.
Fact is that, kids don't realize what stress is. Homework is their stress in a time when they know that they should be enjoying their youth. Going to school is just an extra task in their life that is required by their parents and therefore they must go.
A very strong intention to learn is one that is fairly rare to find in the mind of kids now a day. |
Most of the kids of today only enjoy going to school when they see their friends. Learning is already less interesting to them, so adding homework is only throwing fuel to the flame. They begin falling down a hill that gets steeper and steeper as time goes on. More homework piles up and we just don't want to do it.
Schoolwork is following them to their house and it only stops their interest in learning even more.
7 hours of our day from 8AM - 3PM five days of the week is already enough. |
Then what happens. Homework stops being finished, grades begin to fall, and maybe a bright student with a powerful intelligence will fail a class because they didn't want to do homework. |
They easily learn all of the class material, but since they did not do their homework, they fail the class and must retake it or take extra work to make it up which takes even more time dedicated to school and the learning process.
Then Hate begins to flow for school and everything it stands for. Then the drop outs occur.
Ending homework could substantially increase the amount of learning actually done in classrooms and slow down the loss of interest rate in the minds of the youth of today. |
. Higher test scores will be produced because the tests are only on classroom assignments instead of on homework. The educational system will have a affected uplift, and the youth of today will be much more intelligent.
So I believe that homework should be banned so we get more time for other activities like spending time with families rather than giving stress to families and more time to study where we actually learn something. |
