Linear perspective
|
1.forming - familiarisation, formation of interpersonal relationships, development of team structure
2.storming - rebellion, reisitance to the leader & to control by the group, interpersonal conflict
3.norming - development of solidarity & cooperation, stabilisation of team roles and effort to achieve encomonmy of effort & effectiveness
4. performinf - channeling of energies for team success

Cyclical perspective
|
- development of groups is similar to the life cycle - birth, growth, death
- emphasis is on the terminal phase of the groups existence
- as the group develops it psychologically prepares for its breakup
- especially relevant for groups that last 10-15 wks

Pendular perspective
|
- shifts occur in interpersonal relationships during the growth and development of groups
- groups don't progress through linear phases
