When you combine a logo with a publication or company name.
Headlines
Lines of text that are larger in type in order to attract the reader.
Subheads
Break text into shorter segments in a lengthy article.
Kicker
A small-font headline that is usually under the main headline and sometimes underlined.
Hammer
A larger headline above a smaller main headline. Uses a few words and is obivious
Deck
A short summary of the article.
Byline
The name of a writer and the staff position. Usually smaller in size and in a different face than the text of the article.
Body Copy
The primary text of an article.
Initial and Drop Caps
A large capital letter at the beginning of paragraphs.
Pull Quotes
Used to draw attention to a certain line in the article. Shown as a second, larger quote somewhere on the page.
Headers and Footers
Text that appears above the top body copy margin.
Captions
Text that gives readers more information on a photo, graphic or artwork.
Sidebars
Smaller articles or lists of facts that are in boxes alongside the body copy.
Teasers
Artwork and headlines on the front page that tease you into reading the article.
