It is because velds has low rainfall ,poor soil and occasional droughts which has resulted in poor farming whereas prairies has annual rainfall more than 50 cm.agriculture is widely practsed and modern scientific methods are used for cultivation to grow crops on large scale

Wheat is their main crop.in Canadian prairies is grown in spring where as in United States it is grown in winter season.most of wheat is sold in the market and some are exported to other countries in Europe in Asia.thus prairies is known as the granaries of the world

The summer month are short , warm and wet.the rainfall is low tand most of it occurs during the summer season.the rainfall decreases from south to north and east to west . Droughts are common in velds .thats why vegetation is sparse and consists mainly of grasses

The beef cattle is reared on large farms called ranches . These are looked by very sturdy and hardworking men called cowboys.their main work is looking after and driving the cattle in the pastures

Velds are located in the eastern part of the plateau of South Africa whose altitude ranges 600m to 1000m.these grasslands are flanked by the darkensburg mountains in the east and kalahari desert in the west.High veld is about 1600m high above sea level.
Prairies are located in the interior parts of U.S.A and Canada .it lies between Rocky Mountains in the west , the Appalachian mountains in the east and Great Lakes in the northeast .the Canadian prairies extend over Alberta , Saskatchewan , Manitoba and Ontario .the prairies in United States of America extend over the states of North Dakota , South Dakota , Kansas , Texas , Colorado ,Oklahoma , Minnesota , Montana , Iowa and Wisconsin.

Cattle rearing is done mostly in the warmer and wetter regions of the velds.cattles are reared for dairy products such as milk , butter and cheese.they meet the domestic needs and there is always surplus for export . Cattle also provide meat and leather . Beef is mainly export to Europe.

Prairies experience extreme type of climate or the continental type of climate.the temperature during the summer month is about 20degree Celsius and during winter month it is as low as -20degree Celsius.the Canadian prairies remain under snow almost throughout the winter months . The difference between day and night temperature is also very high.the verge annual rainfall is about 50cm which falls during spring and summer seasons . The winds blow at a great speed.the local winds chinook blow during winter season . These winds come from the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.these warm and dry winds rise the temperature in the winter season and help in melting of snow.
