What is the formula for determining
discharge of a river?
Q=AV where Q is discharge, A is the
cross sectional area of the river and V is
the velocity.
What is bedload?
Bedload is the sediment that is carried
along the base of the stream channel by
saltation and traction.
What are the four methods of sediment transport in a river?
Dissolved load, suspension, saltation, and traction.
What are the three channel types?
Straight, meandering, and braided.
In a meandering stream, where is the velocity greatest?
It is greatest just below the surface on the outside of a meander.
What is stream capacity?
It is the amount of sediment that a stream can carry at a given velocity.
What is stream competence?
Stream competence is the maximum particle size a stream can move at a given velocity?
If velocity increases, what happens to stream competence and capacity?
Both stream competence anc capacity will increase.
What isa delta?
It is a depositioanl landform formed when flowing water enters a standing body of water. As velocity decreases, sediment drops out and is depositied wit hthe coarsest sediment closest to the exit point and the finest sediment furhtest away.
