What are the four main components of organization within FCP X? |
Library...Events...Keywords...Projects The Library is at the top of the pyramid with media organized into Events and Keyword Collections before being edited into Projects. |
What is the difference between Events and Keyword Collections? |
Keyword Collections are the same media imported into Events but organized into more defined and easily accessed areas. |
How do Event, Keyword Collection and Project icons appear in the Library? |
Once you click on Library in the Browser all the contents will cascade down in order of hierarchy. |
Should you want to store media on an external hard drive, how would you direct it there? |
The bigger question is why would you want to? This iMac has 2 terabytes of storage. But if you have a reason to store elsewhere highlight the Library in the Browser, then open the Inspector where you'll see Storage Locations and next to it Modify Settings. |
What is the book's author's opinion about external hard drive storage? |
He thinks all media related to the Library should be kept in a folder on the same drive as the Library. If it's external and you lose it, you're screwed. |
Is it possible for more than one Library to appear in the FCP X interface? |
Sure. A given filmmaker might be working simultaneously on a training video, a documentary, a commercial, etc. |
What are the edited Timelines referred to in FCP X? |
Edited Timelines are called Projects. |
Where are Projects located? |
Two places. All Projects can be accessed from Smart Collections or from within the Event where they were created. |
What are the viewing options for Projects? |
Like all media, Projects can be viewed via List view or Filmstrip view. |
Where is the control for List view / Filmstrip view? |
It's a toggle button at the top right of the Browser. |
How do you create a Library? |
Topmost menu > File > New. This is also how to create Events and Projects. |
How do you close a Library? |
Highlight the Library > File > Close Library (title) |
What will FCP X open to if you click on it in the Dock? |
It will open the software in the state it was in when you last closed it. However you closed it, that's what you'll see when you next open it. |
If you want to open an existing but not currently visible Library, how would you find it? |
File > Open Library > Other |
How would you delete an Event? |
Press the Control button on the keyboard and click on the Event you no longer want. Then navigate to Move Event to Trash. |
