Dust Bowl

They traveled to California away from the Dust Bowl, many died on the road.

They worked picking cotton and fruit, earned 75 cents to $1.25 a day and rented a house without a floor or water for 25 cents and they had to pay for expensive food.

They gave up their farms and settled near big cities in California. They set up little homes called Little Oklahoma or Okievilles. They lived without any electricty or plumbing.
