The Purpose of the Digestive System
Responsible for the breakdown of large, complex organic materials into smaller components that are utilized by the tissues of the body.
The 4 Components of Digestion (in order)
1. Ingestion
2. Digestion 3. Absorption 4. Egestion |
What two factors can affect a functional enzyme?
-Temperature
-pH |
How temperature changes affect enzymes
As the temperature increases, the more energy, and greater enzyme activity. Anything above 37 degrees changes their shape, causing the enzyme to be inactive.
What is denaturization?
When the pH or body temperature are not at their optimal levels, the particles of enzymes lose their shape and can no longer be used.
