Abuse |
Physical maltreatment and/or language that condemns or
vilifies usually unjustly, intemperately, and angrily. It also refers to a
deceitful act, corrupt practice, and/or excessive use of a substance such as
drugs and alcohol.

ADHD |
Stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This
is characterized by behavioral or learning disorders sometimes associated with
excessive restlessness and/or movement.

Adjustment |
A modification, fluctuation, or correction. The act of
being adjusted or a means by which things are adjusted to one another.

Affirmation |
A statement or proposition that is declared to be
true. Confirmation or ratification of the truth or validity of a prior judgment
or decision.

Anxiety |
A fearful concern or an uneasiness of mind. An abnormal and
overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physiological signs
(as sweating, tension, and increased pulse), by doubt concerning the reality
and nature of the threat, and by self-doubt about one's capacity to cope with
it.

Bias |
An inclination of temperament or outlook; especially:
a personal and sometimes unreasoned judgment or prejudice towards a person,
thing, culture, or action.

Boundaries |
Something that indicates or fixes a limit or extent.

Communication |
An act of transmitting information, verbal or written message. A process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a
common system of symbols, signs, or behavior.

Conflict |
A mental struggle resulting from
incompatible or opposing needs, drives, wishes, or external or internal demands.
Competitive or opposing action of incompatibles: antagonistic state or action.

Confidentiality |
Private or secret marked by intimacy or
willingness to confide. Entrusted with
confidences.

Consultation
|
A conference or deliberation between people on a
case or its treatment.
|
Denial
|
Refusal to admit the truth, reality, or to acknowledge
a person or thing. A psychological defense mechanism in which confrontation
with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of
the problem or reality.

Developmental
|
The act, process, or result of developing. The state
of being developed.
|
Dialogue
|
A conversation, written or verbal, between two or more
persons and an exchange of ideas and opinions.
A discussion between representatives of parties to a conflict that is
aimed at resolution.

Dual Relationships
|
Relationships in which a health service provider is
concurrently participating in two or more role categories with a patient. When
a person such as a teacher is acting in another capacity or where multiple relationships
occur between people such as friend, mentor, advisor, and teacher.
