What is critical or analytical thinking? |
-Gather information.. Use a lot of sources -Analyze.. Date of publication, is this fact or opinion? -Evaluate.. where do you want to go from here? |
How do you define fact from opinion in texts? |
-Fact: Easily proven true or false, avoid absolutes. -Opinion: Use absolutes such as never and always. Uses emotional words. |
What is perspective? |
-Broad: generally optimistic, or generally pessimistic -Focused: very narrow view. example: Travelling to school costs too much money due to the increase in gas prices. |
What is an assumption? |
-Your judgement made by your perpective. Perspective shapes your assumtion of situations (i.e. there is only one successful way to be a family; due to the fact that you only have had a mom, to you, this is the only way to create a good family) |
What is creative thinking? |
-Can be taught by: Brainstorming, Challenging the topic, Surround yourself with creative people and places. |
How do you solve a problem? (i.e. being on the computer gives you a sore neck) |
-Ask questions, such as, how and why do I feel this way? -Solution is corrected based on cause not effect (i.e. instead of icing the neck with an ice pack and continue... adjust level of computer so your neck isn't strained) |
How do you make an important decision? |
- Ask yourself how does my decision affect other people? - Evaluate. - Consider long term consequences. |
When does creative thinking occur? |
- When asking questions (Why am I reading this material?) - When you have a drive to think. |
Why is it ok to celebrate your mistakes? |
Because that way you learn to take risks and ask new questions! |
