A: Generalization applies to this particular guy

S: Make him more like the group/generalization

Real estate markets are not doing well. Therefore, the economy is not doing well.
Specific to General Flaw
A: Dominates-markets are 90% of economy as a whole
F: Economy may not dominate- real estate markets may not be 90% of economy
S: You just need info on how big RM is in relation to the whole economy
W: Refers to the other factors of economy showing that the real estate market does not dominate entire economy
ex. points out larger sectors of the economy
Real estate markets are not doing well. Therefore, the economy is not doing well.

F: There may be critical difference between economy and RM

During my entire undergraduate career, I never started writing a paer until the night before it was due and I got an A on every single paper. Therefore, now that I work for the Attorney General, I can rest assured that I do not have to start working on a case until the night before the first hearing.

S: Point out similarities
W: Point out differences
Experts in the field of Scientology agree that treating depression with medication is pointless. Therefore, treating depression with medication is pointless.
Bad information form Experts, Studies, and Data Flaw
A: Experts are correct
F: Experts might be wrong
S: Give them credibility
W: Take away their credibility
The legal definition of intosxication is having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.8 or greater. Jared knows that his blood alcohol content is over .08. Therefore, Jared knows that he is legally intoxicated.
Knowledge Flaw

F: He may not know the legal definition
English 101 is not required for my major. English 101 deals with boring material. Therefore, there is no reason to take english 101.
Extreme Conclusion Flaw
A: No other reason
F: There may be other reasons
S: Eliminate one more reason. This gets you closer to having no reason.
W: Point our another reason. This gets you farther away from having no reason
According to the General Social Survey database, pickup truck ownership is correlated with satellite dish ownership. Therefore, the purchase of a pickup truck will lead one to purchase a satellite dish.
Correlation to Causation Flaw

F: It may be some other explanation that explains correlation
S: Eliminate Z factor
W: Point out the Z factor (it comes out of no where and is not in the argument

Scope Shift from Evidence to Conclusion

F: Might not be related to one another
S: Define some connection in relationship
W: Give a fact that disconnects the relationship (It's this if you don't know where it comes from)
Anyone who falls from the 45th floor of the Empire State Building will have a bad day. Suezienne is having a bad day. Therefore, Suezienne must have fallen from the 45th floor of the Empire State Building.
