Language
speaks English today but most of then speak there own language. Their words are very long and have vowels that are difficult for us to say. Their alphabet is 14 letters that is combined to form words and phrases.
Where they Live
They use to live in the great plans but now the northern cheyenne indians live in Montana and the southern cheyenne indians live in Oklahoma. Their tarrory extends over 500,000 square miles covers nearly eight states but only 2 of the states have a hight number of cheyenne indians.
Problems
Health care is the biggest problem with most of the cheyenne indians. Health problems are growing like diabetes, obesity, substance abuse, teen suicide. drug abuse and alcoholism have became massive problem eight out of ten families have a alcohol ( unfortunately among their children)
Problems
a lot of mothers drink a lot of alcohol during pregnancy. the kids are suffering from epileptic attacks, speech disorders, learning problems, growth problems and deformed bodies and organs.
Problems
Unemployment are between 50-70%. have the highest school drop outs(54%), teenage suicide (18.5 per 100,000) teen pregnancy, and lowest life expectancy (55 years old). its estimated that there are 90,000 homeless cheyenne indians.
Leadership
people think they have a single supreme chief who behaved and is treated like a king but its not true. there are 44 chief 4 from each of the 10 cheyenne tribes and + 4 advisers. the chiefs are called " keeper of the sacred arrow". chiefs hold very little power or authority, but have a great deal of responsibility. Only men could be chiefs.
Religion
There are two primary deities called " the Wise One Above" and the God Who Lives in the Earth" there are four spirits - south, north, east, west. They are christianity, native american church and traditional tribal religion.
Arts
Fine quill embroidery, beadwork, pipestone carving and pottery.
Culture
story telling is very important to their culture.The Cheyenne also loved storytelling and music and dance. One of the most important, if the not the most important, Cheyenne dance is the Sundance. The Sundance was believed to have the power to take troubles away. both men and women could be storytellers, artists, musicians, and medicine givers.
History
They use to trade horses. sioux pushed many Cheyenne people out of their home in the Great Lakes, and the Cheyenne settled further west on the Great Plains (in modern South Dakota and eastern Montana). Cheyenne indians made their new houses in earth-covered log houses.

mothers carried their young children in cradleboards on their backs. The girls helped their mothers with the weaving and cooking and care of the family. The boys went hunting with their fathers. But there was always time for play in the Cheyenne world. Kids played with dolls and hoops. They played lacrosse. Their clothing was beautiful.

The women wore long deerskin dresses and high leather fringed boots. They men wore breechcloths, leather leggings, and moccasins. Everything was designed with quill work. Both men and women wore their hair braided. They painted their faces, but only for special occasions. They used different patterns for war and holidays.

The Cheyenne followed the buffalo. When the buffalo moved, so did they. Everything in their lives was designed to be able to quickly move. An entire village could be packed up and moved in just a few hours. Cheyenne were warriors, not farmers. Cheyenne chiefs and other leaders wore tall feather headdresses, but they switched over to the long war bonnets that most Plains Indians used.
Culture
over the past 400 years the cheyenne tribe have gone through four stages of culture. 1st they lived in eastern woodlands- (they planted corn, beans, wild rice) 2nd lived in present-day Minnesota and South Dakota and continued farming. 3rd they stopped their farming lifestyle and became a full-fledged plains horse culture tribe. 4th is reservation phase.
