is usually shorter than other stories, has talking animal or other unrealistic characters, is meant to teach some kind of lesson/moral

Mystery

Fiction story = characteristics include:
a crime of some sort, clues that lead to the person who did the crime, a detective or detective-like character, usually has solution at the end.

Tall tales

Fiction stories = characteristics include:
bigger than life characters and events, explains how something came to be, usually not very long

Poems

Fiction writing = characteristics include:
written in stanzas, used for entertainment, has ryhming words, uses descriptive language, often has a rhythm

made up and handed down by common people, explains natural happenings in nature in fantasical ways.

written by the person who the story is about, gives actual places and events in tme, has photographs, often has dialogue

chronological order of real events, sketches or diagrams depicting places and people, written in first person

Newspaper story

Nonfiction = characteristics include:
bylines, dates of events, answers who, what, when, where, how, and/or why something happened, is factual and generally short
