Colonists rapidly grew in North America and by 1700, every 19 people in England accounted for every colonist; by 1770, there were only 3; population grew by immigration and natural increase
Immigration Trends and Natural Increase
Natural increase is growth through reproduction; contributed to 75% of population growth and immigration is 25%; Immigrations made the colonies diverse, so there was fewer than 10% of people from England and mostly were Scots-Irish

New England divided land to each individual family and cana subdivide the land more or less equally to their sons but land became too small to support a family

Shipbuilding
Shipbuilders tend to do better than other artisans because they are an important part of NE's economy; building ships meant that more goods can be traded across the sea
Merchants
Merchants dominated Atlantic commerce; sold to both local folk and international markets; not only bought and sold goods, but owned and insured ships to carry their goods
Germans and Scots-Irish Immigrants
Germans are the largest group to migrate from European continent to middle colonies due to French invasions during the Queen Anne's War; were mostly farmers and laborers; Scots Irish were Protestants and rarely hesitate to bear arms or swear oaths
"the best poor man's country in the world"
Conditions of bought servants were hard due to masters not providing food and clothing, but there were opportunities in the middle colonies because there were more work to be done than workers to do it ( a lot of jobs, but not many people doing all of them)

Middle Colonies were considered as the breadbasket of America; planted a variety of crops to feed families, but grew wheat in abundance to trade; produced flour by flour milling and sold them

Ben published Poor Richard's Almanack which preached the possibility of longterm rewards for hard labor and became his most profitable product and became popular
The Atlantic Slave Trade (the triangular trade)
It was a trade route that supported the growth of England and increase of population of slaves; first leg were merchant ships carrying guns, horses, alcohol, etc. to Africa where it would be traded for slaves, second leg was Middle Passage where slaves were brought to America, third leg were crops made in America shipped back to Europe- copied from my finals notecard dum nig
The Middle Passage
Middle Passage is where slaves are being shipped across the Atlantic and were sold to slave merchants or planters

The expansion of the slave population in the South
Slaves kept pouring into the Southern colonies by the Atlantic slave trade; when there are a lot of slaves, mothers were able to bore slave children which caused the population to rise rapidly, causing a high rate of natural increase
Slave Resistance/ Rebellions --- Stono, South Carolina
Slaves tried to fight back their masters but were too weak; then, one day, the slaves formed a group and stolen weapons from the shops; they killed whatever whites they found but soon the whites suppressed it and mounted their heads; showed that slaves had no chance of defeating slavery and had to live in their lifestyle for rest of their lives
