What is Cerebro Spinal Fluid?
Secreted through the nose and the mouth when a skull fracture is present
What are the 3 layers of meninges in the brain?
Dura mater, arachnoid, pia mater
What are the 3 major parts of the brain?
Cerebrum (largest), cerebellum (little brain), brain stem
What is a concussion?
Involves stretching or tearing of brain tissue
What is a contusion?
Bruising or swelling of the brain tissue
What is a subdural hematoma?
Collection of the blood between dura mater and arachnoid layer
What is an epidural hematoma?
A deceleration injury, along with skull fracture
What is a laceration in head trauma?
Happens during penetrations to the head and lacerates the brain
Talk about the GCS scale?
Eye Opening (4) Verbal (5) Motor (6)
What would the pts vitals be with a head injury?
If BP high suspect pressure in skull, If BP low suspect blood loss......Pulse fast = hemorrhage, pulse slow suspect pressure in skull
