Who is Robert Hooke?
|
Born in 1635 and discorvered cells in 1665. A man that studied a peice of cork under a microscope and onserved box-shaped structures under the lens, which he named as 'cells'.
|
A special boundary that helps control what enters and leaves the cell.
In what type if cells? |
Plasma Membrance
all eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells |
What is the Cell Theory?
|
1. all living organises are composed of one or more cells
2. cells are the basic unit of stucture and organization of all living organisms 3. Cells arise only frompreviously existing cells, with cells passing copies of their genetic material onto their daughter cells. |
Cells that contain a nucleus and other organelles
|
Eukaryotic cells
|
Distinct central organelle that contains the cell's genetic material in the form of DNA
In what type if cells? |
Nucleus
Eukaryotic cells |
Specialized structures that carry out specific cell functions
|
Orgnalles
|
Simple cells that DO NOT contain a nucleus or other organelles
|
Prokaryotic cells
|
An inflexible barried that provides suport and protects the palnt cell
In what type if cells? |
Cell wall
plant and prokaryotic cells |
Organelles that occur in pairs and are important for cell division
In what type if cells? |
Centrioles
animal cells |
A double-membrance organelle with thylakoids containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place
In what type if cells? |
Chloroplast
plant cells |
Projections from cell surfaces that aid in locomotion and feeding; also used to sweep substances along surfaces
In what type if cells? |
Cilia
eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells |
A framework for the cell within the cytoplasm
In what type if cells? |
Cytoskeleton
eukaryotic cells |
A highly foldered membrane that is the site of protein synthesis
In what type if cells? |
Endoplasmic reticulum
Eukaryotic cells |
Projections that aid in locomotion and feeding
In what type if cells? |
Flagella
Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells |
A flattened stack to tubular membrances that modifies proteins and packages them for distribution outside the cell
In what type if cells? |
Golgi body
Eukaryotic cells |
