Epithelial tissue
Covers internal and external surfaces in order to form boundaries between different environments, and forms glands. Also makes up the interior lining of the digestive tract and outer layer of skin. 80% of all cancers develop from epithelial tissues bc of the high regeneration rate
Connective tissue
Supports, binds, protects other tissues together. Most abundant and distributed tissues in the body
Nervous tissue
Forms the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Nerve cells have the ability to generate electric signals and use those signals to communicate with each other to become aware of the world outside and inside, to store this information as memory, and o use it to make conscious decisions
Muscle tissue
Ability to contract and cause movement by converting chemical energy from our food into mechanical energy.
Smooth muscle tissue
Cannot be controlled voluntarily. found mostly in walls of hollow organs, such as bladder and stomach. Smooth muscle cells help us to empty our bladder
Cardiac muscle
Found in wall of the heart only. cannot be controlled by us and can generate its own contraction rhythm. cardiac muscle cells pump blood through the circulation
Skeletal muscle
Needs signals from the nervous system to contract. skeletal muscles attach to bones or skin and help body to move and manipulate its environment. skeletal muscle cells help us move our bodies around
Benign
If neoplasm does not cause damage to the surrounding structures and does not spread (metastasize) to other locations
Malignant
Neoplasms that grow locally destructive and spread to other areas of the body and causing death if untreated
Semi-malignant neoplasms
Grow locally destructive but no not spread. may cause death if untreated but can be cured by surgical removal or radiation treatment
Basal cell carcinoma BCC
Most common form of skin cancer. is semi-malignant and will not spread but grow locally invasive
Malignant melanoma
Rarest form of skin cancer and also deadliest as it spreads early and forms metastases that are resistant to chemotherapy
-oma
Any tumor regardless of cause
Hematoma
Localized accumulation of blood in the tissue
Sarcoma
Malignant tumor arising from muscle tissue
