- After World War One, Maritime steel demand dramatically decreased since Canadian railways slowed down - Nova Scotia’s demand for Maritime coal also dramatically decreased because Ontarioand Quebec’s oil and electricity increased - Cheaper steal and coal in Americabecause of low tariffs, which therefore dominated the Maritimes demands |
Why was mining so dangerous?

Mining was dangerous because there was loose blasting powder which was in hand-bored holes that would cause death if there was too much powder added or improper bored holes. There was a threat of methane gas causing explosions.
