Science

Observation
Using one or more of your senses to identify or learn about something.
Inference

Model
A representation of an object or an event that is used as a tool for understanding the natural world.
Independent variable
The variable that is changed or altered in a controlled experiment. It is the manipulated variable. There is only one independent variable in a controlled experiment. It is what "I" alter.
Dependent variable
The variable that is being measured in response to the independent variable. It depends (or relies) on the independent variable. Normally a number
Scientific theory
An attempt to explain a pattern that is observed repeatedly in the natural world. They are vague ideas
Scientific law
A rule that describes a pattern in nature. Must be something that is observed repeatedly. The law stands until someone makes an observation that does not follow the law.
