ThirteenBy Lauren Myracle
The main characters in my book are Winnie- a 13 year old normal girl and also the narrator, Cinnamon- the spunky thirteen year old best friend of Winnie, Dinah- a shy less matured 12 year old best friend of Winnie, Lars- the 14 year old boyfriend of Winnie, and Ty- the little 6 year old brother of Winnie.
Setting
There are several settings of this story including the salon- the one I am showing you, Winnie's house, and school. The main setting, though, is school. Winnie goes to Westminster School. Westminster school is a preppy private school with no uniforms that all of Winnie's friends and boyfriend are from. Westminster is large and there are three main buildings, the middle school, the grade school, and the highschool.
Beginning
The story starts with Winnie's 13 th birthday at the salon, the scene I created. Cinnamon, Dinah, and Winnie are going to get a makeover for Winnie's birthday. This is when Winnie realizes that her friends and herself are getting older and that appearance will matter later on and she gets a new pint of view about the world. Winnie then goes home and sees Lars who she goes to a party with. At the party, Winnie gets her first kiss from Lars and he and she become boyfriend and girlfriend.
Middle
In the middle of this story, Winnie dates Lars and tries to balance school and friends. Since the summer is burning hot, Winnie hangs out with her family most of the summer, in which Winnie grows very close to her brother Ty. Ty reminds her of how easy life was back in 1st grade. Winnie's mom starts experiencing mood swings, which Winnie at first thinks is from the heat. Winnie's mom later reveals that she is pregnant. Winnie also continues to date Lars, but Lars is being rude to her. Lars insults Winnie in front of other people to make them laugh. Winnie puts up with this until she finds the courage to break up with Lars. Cinnamon starts to act much older than she is and ends up frustrating Winnie. Dinah doesn't grow up, and keeps her childish ways. WInnie feels bad about this and struggles to stay friends with both.
Ending
Winnie hangs out with her friends and tries to reunite them. After a while, Cinnamon even starts making fun of Dinah to please her friends. Winnie confronts Cinnamon about it and Cinnamon stops. Winnie becomes best friends with her friends again. Winnie still feels bad after breaking up with Lars, though. Winnie decides to run straight to where Lars was, and talk to him. Lars and Winnie get back together after they talk, and Lars apologizes. The story ends with WInnie finding out her mother is having a baby girl, and that Winnie was going to be a big sister.
Theme
The theme of this story is that even though things seem bad, you will always come out stronger than before. This is because enev though Winnie fights with everyone close to her in this book, she comes out with stronger relationships and a new view on the world.
