Front Back
Global Navigation Chart (GNC) [coverage, scale, primary operations, details]
* world wide coverage * 1:5,000,000 * long-range, high-speed, high-altitude (cover lots of realestate) * basic cartographic information with aeronautical overprint (mile long runways)
Jet Navigation Chart (JNC) [coverage, scale, primary operations, details]
* world wide coverage * 1:2,000,000 (with the exception of during the Cold War 1:3,000,000) * high-altitude radar navigation by strategic aircraft (CSAR, EW, aircrew training) * when you start seeing air defense identifcation zones, contour lines, water depth, major transportation networks
Operational Navigation Chart (ONC) [coverage, scale, primary operations, details]
* world wide coverage (except Antarctica) * 1:1,000,000 * high-speed radar at medium altitude * start getting into visual flight rule (things to see not avoid), land marks, and maximum elevation figures
Small Scale Maps
Global Navigation Chart (GNC) Jet Navigation Chart (JNC) Operational Navigation Chart (ONC)
Medium Scale Maps
Tactial Pilotage Chart (TPC) Joint Operations Graphic-Air (JOG-A)
Tactical Pilotage Chart (TPC) [coverage, scale, primary operations, details]
* Europe, Asian, CONUS, Central America, most of Africa, half of South America, and coastal Australia * 1:500,000 * high-speed, low-altitude radar and visual navigation (dodging the ground) * adds more cultural information, 3,000+ ft runways, elevation tinting, glossary, UTM grid system, and GEOCOORDs
Joint Operations Graphic-Air (JOG-A) [coverage, scale, primary operations, details]
* Europe, CONUS, Central America, and parts of Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America * 1:250,000 * used to tactical ops; detail is great enough to use with army (Joint): international and joint service air or ground tactical operations...map with the most uses associated with it * terrain analysis, detailed cultural detail, UTM grids, hydrographic info
Acronym
G JOT JOG-A Global Navigation Chart (GNC) Jet Navigation Chart (JNC) Operational Navigation Chart (ONC) Tactical Pilotage Chart (TPC) Joint Operations Graphic-Air (JOG-A)
Evasion Charts (EVCs) [who, what]
* used by downed airmen * 4 JOG-As printed together; Tyvek; survival info
Training Area Charts [who, what]
* used for test calibration and aircrew training * based on existing charts * made specifically for ranges: Nellis, Pensacola, Eglin, Edwards, Korea, Alaska
Combat Charts [who, what]
* SPECOPS; joint ops; combat training * depict equal amounts of sea and land; show depth of water and elevation of land
Topographic Line Map (TLM) [who, what]
* very useful to the army * shows the grade of terrain = how long it takes to walk from here to there; shows small changes in elevation *tight spaghetti = dramatic changes
Land Satellite Image Map (LIM) [when, what]
* only used when there's something wrong * super general, limited use and detail; initial map used until better charts can be made = fast crisis support
City Graphics [who, what]
* used by infantry "kicking down doors"; Non-com Evac Ops (NEO) * lots of detail; city blueprint with detailed information about military relief
Gazetteer
* publication that contains names and pronounciations for locations (includes lat and long, UTM, jog sheet #) * now on intelink
