What is a life cycle?
- The phase between one generation (adults) to the next generation (of adults). OR - The reproductive life cycle.
What is a genome?
The genetic information within an organism.
What happens in sexual reproduction?
The sperm and egg each carry their own genetic information.
What is genetic diversity?
When offspring traits are from two parents. so therefore they are different.
What is asexual reproduction?
CLONES are produced. That is the identical production of the parent (1 parent involved).
Will organisms create a different kind of organism?
No, they will created their own kind of organism. ex: dogs produce dogs, cats produce cats, and human produce humans.
What occurs in sexual reproduction?
A genetic variation occurs. ex: humans make humans, but they are not identical to each other.
Why are all humans not identical?
It is due to chromosomes, genes, and ultimately the inheritance of the person.
What do cells come from? who discovered this?
Cells come from preexisting cells. This was discovered by Virchow.
What is cell division?
The production of 2 cells from 1 cell.
What do multicellular organisms use cell division for?
For growth, repair and maintenance
What does growth, repair and maintenance do for the cell?
It replaces new cells and tissuesex: blood, skin, bone, muscle, and some nerve cells ALSOit is the method for healing wounds
Before the cell can take part in cell division, what must it do first?
Duplicate its DNA
What are unicellular organisms doing when they undergo cell division?
Reproducing themselves.
What is binary fission ?
When a cell undergoes cell division and creates 2 of itself.
