A Criminal History Record may be viewed for the following Criminal Justice purposes.
• Detection • Apprehension • Detention • Pretrial release • Post-trial release • Prosecution • Adjudication • Correctional supervision • Rehabilitation of accused persons or criminal offenders • Criminal Justice pre-employment
What is Contained in a Utah Computerized Criminal History (UCCH) file?
• Criminal Justice Summary – Total number of Utah arrests and date of last arrest • Arrests – Lists name used at arrest, date of arrest, Offense Tracking Number (OTN), arresting agency, arresting agency case number, and the charge • Disposition – Lists the name of the court and the disposition for each charge
The Criminal History File is.....
a compilation of information obtained from each section of the criminal justice system
The arrest information found on a criminal history record is obtained from
the ten-print fingerprint card and/or single-print citations
Utah state law requires that all courts electronically forward their
criminal disposition information to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and the Utah Driver License Division
Criminal Justice Databases: Utah State Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS)
• A computerized system which maintains Utah records and verifications for NCIC, NLETS and UCCH

Criminal Justice Databases: National Crime Information Center (NCIC)
• A computerized index of documented criminal justice information concerning crimes and criminals of nationwide interest and a locator file for missing and unidentified persons • Contains accurate and timely documented criminal justice information
National Crime Information Center (NCIC) includes information on:
 Wanted persons  Missing persons  Unidentified persons  Stolen property  Criminal history information  Information compiled during the course of the investigation of crimes that are known, or believed, on reasonable grounds to have occurred. Information including identifiable individuals and information about those identifiable individuals are compiled in an effort to anticipate, prevent or monitor possible criminal activity. •In Utah, this program is administered by the Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI), a division of the Department of Public Safety
Criminal Justice Databases: National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS)
• A computerized, high-speed message switching system created for the criminal justice community. Its sole purpose is to provide for the interstate and/or interagency exchange of criminal justice and criminal justice related information including driver license files. • Can receive, store, and forward message traffic to and from all of its user agencies • Administrative message traffic on the system includes all types of free criminal justice related data from one point to one or more points • Through NLETS, officers can inquire into other state motor vehicle, driver license, and criminal history databases • NLETS does not maintain any databases, but rather enables users to access various state databases for that reason, information from these files is often formatted differently ♦ All information is accessed through dispatch or mobile computer systems • Allows for control of information dissemination
